Pitch day Presentation
I was out with COVID on pitch day but Matthew said it went really well. He was excited to tell me that we already have a meeting with admin to talk about the project. Below I have put the slides for our presentation.
Meeting with Admin
Today we had a meeting with the administrators who want to help us with pour project. We went over the presentation with them again and they gave us some ideas on how to make our project better. They connected us with Mrs. Arnold in the media center at Brandywine and we scheduled a meeting with her. Overall this meeting went very well and was very instructive.
BrandyWine Visit 9/15/2023
Today we went to Brandywine to talk to Mrs. Arnold. She said that she had some technology that we could use for our project. We talked about what she had and how we could use it. We also talked about what times were good for us to come in.
Mrs. Arnold is showing us all the technology they have available to use. They had many things we could use including spheros. NPTV tagged along to take pictures of our meeting. We also talked about making what we do fit in with the curriculum. We have many plans moving forward to try to tie in to the curriculum and make a common experience across all the schools.
Getting Contacts 10/6/2023
We have reached out to more people for connections inside the schools. It took a while to get a response, but we got some. They were saying that they would love to meet to get us more involved in their schools. We reached out to about 5 people to get in touch. Most of them responded and said that they would love to have us come in their classroom. We are hoping to get a meeting again with Ms. Arnold on the 20th of this month. At the next meeting we hope to be able to plan out our first visit and learn more about the technology that she has to offer.
Our First LESSON
Today we went into our first classroom. We were with 4th graders at BWE. At this lesson we worked with ozobots. Matthew and I got some mazes for the kids to make the ozobots solve them. Throughout that time Matthew and I walked around and helped the kids solve their mazes. If you completed a maze we gave some candy to them. They enjoyed it a lot. The one thing that we would fix is updating the ozobots so they run smoother. But overall I feel like it was a success and Mrs. Arnold said that she could help us get in with more classes. Mr. Theobald also came in and took some pictures and watched the lesson. We can't wait to go back!
Preparing for lesson two
For the past couple weeks we have been emailing with Mrs. Arnold. She plans to have us come in to do a lesson for her kindergarten class after break. She had a cool mouse coding game that she wanted us to use. We have been working and planning on a lesson with this for them. This will be a lesson where a maze is created and they will program the mouse to solve it.
Above is what we have currently made as a slideshow for our lesson. It is still in progress. The slide show shows them how to control the mouse. It also will have the mazes that they need to solve on them. After they complete a maze everyone in the group will get a piece of candy. And as always if they need help solving a maze, they can just ask!
Visiting Mrs. Aldridge's 1st Grade class 1/24/24
Today we went into Mrs. Aldridge's 1st grade class. They were very excited for the lesson. We took our mouse lesson from above to them. While we were there, we went over the instructions. After that they went and sat in their groups. Each table got one kit to build a maze for their mouse. After each table was done building, we had them rotate tables and solve each others mazes. Some were very complicated and others were more simple. During the time to solve the mazes, most groups were able to solve every maze. After the maze we gave Mrs. Aldridge some candy to hand out to her students after lunch.
Finding more teachers and filling out life Journals
Currently we have reached out to Mrs. Arnold to help us find more teachers to go into their classes. Once we find a new class we will create another lesson that goes along with what they are learning. We also have started going to the Woodland Terrace now to help the elderly members fill out their Life journals. For this we ask them questions from the book and fill it out as it goes. We also get to hear stories from them about their life and what they have done. It is really interesting hearing about all of the things that they have done. It is also really fun filling out the journals for the people just to help them. This is a great experience and opportunity for all of us that are participating.
